Gameplay

Two players compete to take over the most territory on a grid with 25 letters. Each player takes a turn assembling words from the letters found on the grid. When players finish making a word, the selected letters turn into that player's color (either red or blue).[2] If a player's tiles surround a letter, the other player cannot claim it. Players may choose to pass a turn. Once every square is occupied or if both players decide to pass their turns in the same round, the player with the greatest amount of squares taken wins.[3]

Development

After leaving Twitter in November 2011, developer and founder of Atebits Loren Brichter started creating Letterpress.[4] He was inspired by another word game, SpellTower, during a dinner with his wife, and Brichter wanted to make a multiplayer version of that game.[5]

Release

Letterpress was first released on iOS on October 24, 2012. After the game was bought by a new company, Solebon LLC, Letterpress was released to the Mac App Store on July 20, 2016.[1]

Reception

Letterpress has a Metacritic rating of 89 based on eight critics.[6]

Accolades

Letterpress has been featured in the App Store's Best of 2012 list, which ranks the highest selling games of that year.[7] In 2013, the game was nominated at the Worldwide Developers Conference and won the Apple Design Awards.[8][9]
