Life

MC Millaray and her two younger siblings were raised in the town of La Pincova in the Huechuraba  commune by her parents Alexis Jara (father) and Claudia Collío, (mother). Her father is a rapper and hiphop singer. She developed interest in hiphop and Mapuche culture from her father. At the age of five, she started composing her own rhymes and songs. She came into public attention in 2016, at the age of ten, when she performed on TVN's morning show with a song she composed.[3][4][5]

In 2020, she was named the spokesperson for the Network for the Defense of Mapuche Children after composing a song for the group. She participated in the second episode of TVN Chile Series Somos los niños in 2020 and released a song titled October Rebellion (Rebelión de octubre) with Ana Tijoux  marking the one year anniversary of the social outbreak in Chile.[6] She performed at the Climate Week in New York alongside other international artists in 2022.[7]

She is a leading young voice for the independence of Mapuche people. She uses her music to highlight the struggle of her indigenous people for self-governance and was a key figure in a campaign for the failed referendum to approve independence for Mapuche people. In one of her songs during the referendum campaign calling for the return of Mapuches to their lands – the Wallmapu she says "I'm a little Mapuche rapper, I don't identify myself as Chilean," I identify myself “with our struggle, with our resistance, with our Mapuche childhood”, “many acts of violence have occurred, I want to reflect that reality.”[1][8]
