Mach Jail

Mach Jail, colloquially known as Kala Pani, is a prison situated 60 kilometres (37 mi) southwest of the Quetta valley in Pakistan.[1][2]

History

The prison was established in 1929 during British India era.[3] Its remote location, approximately 10 to 15 kilometers from the small town of Machh, was chosen to impose severe punishments on freedom fighters away from public view.[3]

The facility, occupying 60 acres (24 ha), holds up to 825 inmates and has overseen at least 61 executions since 1978.[3]
