Matt Chorley

Matt Chorley is a British journalist and broadcaster who hosts a live show on Times Radio. His early career was at the Taunton Times before covering politics for the Western Morning News and the Press Association. He was subsequently political editor at MailOnline, and a political correspondent for the Independent on Sunday. He has won awards for his political podcast and digital journalism.

Early and personal life

Chorley was born in 1982, He was brought up near Taunton on the Somerset Levels and attended Richard Huish College.[1] He first worked at the now defunct Taunton Times.[2]

Career

Chorley covered politics at the Western Morning News and Press Association and was political editor at MailOnline. He was a political correspondent at The Independent on Sunday.[3] He works for The Times as host of the Red Box podcast and presenter of the political mid-morning show on Times Radio.[4][5][6]

In 2019, Chorley toured his one-man comedy political show, This is Not Normal, around the UK.[7]

He started work as a Times Radio presenter in June 2020. He initially filled the 10am to 1pm shift from the Monday to Thursday, but added the Friday shift in May 2021.[8][9][10]

Accolades

At the 2020 Society of Editors' Press Awards Red Box won the Best News Podcast Award.[11] At the 2020 London Press Club, Chorley won Digital Journalist of the Year for his Red Box political email newsletter and podcast for The Times.[12] In February 2021 Chorley was nominated for ‘radio broadcaster of the year’ at the Broadcasting Press Guild awards.[13] In September 2022 he was short-listed in the category "Broadcaster of the Year" at The Press Awards.[14] In March 2023 Chorley was nominated in the best speech presenter at the Audio and Radio Industry Awards.[15]
