Michael Finn-Henry

Michael Finn-Henry is a climber and researcher.[1][2]

Biography

Finn-Henry was educated at Carroll School and the Brimmer and May School.[3][4][5] Later, he studied at Vanderbilt University, where he was a recipient of the Bruce and Bridgitt Evans Class of 1981 Honor Scholarship.[6]

Finn-Henry began climbing as part of a dyslexia therapy program. He later received a bronze medal at the IFSC Youth World Championships in 2017.[1][7]

In 2021, Finn-Henry, representing the United States, won the North American Cup Series.[8] Subsequently, due to his dual citizenship, he competed as a member of the Canadian national team.[9][10] Since then, he has broken the Canadian national record twice: first, at the 2022 Chamonix men's World Cup with a time of 5.69 seconds and again at the 2023 Salt Lake City men's World Cup with a time of 5.59 seconds.[11][12][13]

As a researcher, Finn-Henry worked in Professor Michael Goldfarb's mechanical engineering lab.[6] Alongside Olivia Busk and two VUMC surgical fellows, he co-developed a hemorrhage control device named EndoShunt.[6] This innovation received funding from NSF's I-Corps program in collaboration with Vanderbilt's VISE.[6]
