Michael Joseph (Saint Lucian sprinter)

Michael Joseph (born 1 November 2002) is a track and field athlete from Saint Lucia who competes as a sprinter.[1]

Early life

From Gros Islet, on the island of St Lucia, he attended Kingston College in Jamaica, before attending the University of Kansas.[2]

Career

In 2022, he was selected to compete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.[3] He was part of the Saint Lucian 4x100m relay team that qualified for the final and finished fifth.[4]

In May 2023, competing for the Kansas Jayhawks at the Big 12 Championships in Norman, Oklahoma, he set new national record times of 22.71 for the 200 metres and 44.77 for the 400 metres.[5][6]

In July 2023, at the Central American and Caribbean Games, he ran 44.90 for the 400m, finishing second to Jereem Richards.[7]

Competing at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, he qualified for the 400m semi-final.[8] He was the youngest athlete to qualify from the heats into the semi-finals.[9]
