Mirza Ruhul Amin

Mirza Ruhul Amin (Bengali: মির্জা রুহুল আমিন; 28 February 1921 – 19 January 1997) was a Jatiya Party (Ershad) politician and the former Member of Parliament of Thakurgaon-2. His son, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, is the Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party.[2]

Early life and education

Mirza Ruhul Amin was born on 28 February 1921 to a Bengali Muslim family of Mirzas in the village of Mirzapur in Atwari, Panchagarh, then part of the Bengal Presidency's Dinajpur District.[3] He completed his matriculation from Thakurgaon English High School in 1938. He then studied at the University of Calcutta where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1942. After the Partition of Bengal in 1947, he moved to Thakurgaon Sadar.[4]

Career

Ruhul Amin served in the East Pakistan Assembly from 1965 to 1969.[5] He was elected to parliament from Thakurgaon-2 as a Jatiya Party candidate in 1988.[6] He had served as the Minister of Land in the cabinet of Hussain Mohammad Ershad.[7][8]

Personal Life

Amin was married to Fatema Amin and has 7 children including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. [9]

Death

Ruhul Amin died on 19 January 1997.[3] Mirza Ruhul Amin auditorium in Thakurgaon was named after him.[10]
