Mohamed Mijarul Quayes

Quayes was educated at Dhaka Residential Model College, the Department of International Relations, Dhaka University, and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.[5]

Quayes was a Bangladesh Civil Service Cadre of 1982.[5] He was an Edward S . Mason Fellow in Public Policy and Management and studied under Amartya Sen, Robert Nozick, Shirley Williams, Richard Neustad, Ernest May and Robert Vogel at Harvard.[5] At Dhaka University, he was a fellow of the Centre for Alternatives.[5]

Quayes was a life member of the UN Association of Bangladesh.[5] He has taught at the North South University and BRAC University in Dhaka and has been a resource for the Foreign Service Academy, the National Defence College and the Public Administration Training Centre.[5] He also taught aesthetics and the history of art at the National Academy of the Arts in Dhaka.[5]

In April 2014, Quayes was transferred from Bangladesh High Commissioner post in the United Kingdom to Ambassador of Bangladesh to Brazil.[6] He replaced M Shameem Ahsan who was appointed the Permanent Representative Bangladesh to the United Nations in Geneva.[6] This was a less prestigious posting due to poor performance as High Commissioner in the United Kingdom.[6] He also had audit complaints against him due to his spending when he was transferred from Maldives to Russia.[6] He had also purchased paintings worth 80 million BDT at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.[6] The government was also unhappy that the British government did not congratulating Sheikh Hasina for winning the 2014 Bangladeshi general election.[6]

Mijarul Quayes was taken to a hospital in Brasília in February 2017. He died from multiple organ failure on 10 March. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.[7]
