Molly Lewis (whistler)

Molly Lewis (b. c1990)[1] is an Australian born, Los Angeles-based, musician known for her whistling.

Career

Born in Sydney, Australia,[1] Lewis grew up whistling, and later pursued it as a career.[2] After her parents showed her the documentary Pucker Up: The Fine Art of Whistling, she entered her first whistling competition, the 2012 International Whistlers Convention in North Carolina. She later won first place in the Live Band Accompaniment Division (female) at 2015's Masters of Musical Whistling competition in Los Angeles,[2] where her family had moved to.[1]

She performed with musicians such as Dr. Dre, Karen O, and Jackson Browne,[3] and appeared in Kirin J. Callinan's song and video Big Enough in 2017.[4] She whistled for the Parkway Drive 2022 Album "Darker Still" where she whistled for the song "Darker Still".

Her debut EP The Forgotten Edge was released in 2021 on Jagjaguwar,[1] after the label saw her lounge show Café Molly in LA.[5] This was followed by a second EP Mirage in 2022.[6] For the 2023 movie Barbie she collaborated with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, with Lewis whistling a rendition of Billie Eilish's "What Was I Made For?"; their track "Meeting Ruth" was released on the film's score album.[7]
