Moorea-Maiao

Moʻorea-Maiʻao is a commune of French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean. The commune is in the administrative subdivision of the Windward Islands.[2] At the 2017 census it had a population of 17,816.[3]

The commune of Moʻorea-Maiʻao is made up of the island of Moʻorea (133 km2/51 sq. miles; 17,463 inhabitants at the 2017 census) and the much smaller atoll of Maiʻao (8.8 km2/3.4 sq. miles; 353 inhabitants at the 2017 census),[3] located 78 km (48 mi) southwest of Moʻorea.

The administrative centre of the commune is the settlement of Afareaitu, on the island of Moʻorea.[7]
