Moritz Glik

Moritz Glik was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and developed an early fascination with craftsmanship and handmade objects primarily through his mom, who was a seamstress and taught him how to cut and sew fabric at an early age. His passion for creativity led him to pursue formal training at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais (PUC-MG) where he received a BA in Advertising and Marketing.

During his college years, Moritz started handcrafting sandals for himself, which soon became a real business. His first company, named Glik Calçados, designed and manufactured women's shoes, sandals, and sneakers for the Brazilian market. In 1991 he moved to New York[1] to broaden his experience as a shoe designer. While working for a leather goods factory he met an established jewelry designer that soon became his first client and mentor as an independent bench jeweler. Being a self-taught bench jeweler, his training involved observing skilled craftsmen in the field, reading jewelry books, and studying training videos on VHS tapes, at a time when online platforms like YouTube were not available. Before embarking on his jewelry design career, he ensured a comprehensive understanding of the entire jewelry-making process. In 2003 Moritz founded his eponymous jewelry brand, Moritz Glik, which quickly gained recognition for its distinctive creations.

One of Moritz Glik's most notable innovations is the creation of the "Kaleidoscope Shaker",[2] where loose precious gemstones are enclosed in capsules made of white sapphire crystal and gold. This unique technique allows the gemstones to float freely, creating a mesmerizing and dynamic visual effect. The Kaleidoscope Sakers™ became an instant hit and solidified Glik's reputation as a relevant artist in the jewelry industry.

His work has been showcased in various publications and media outlets, including Forbes,[3][4][5] JCK,[6][7] InStore,[8][9] Vogue,[10] InStyle, Cosmopolitan, W,[11] Harper's Bazaar, and the book "Jewelry Shining Stars"[12][13] by jewelry writer Beth Bernstein.

Some of the notable celebrities who have been seen wearing Glik's jewelry include Michelle Obama,[14] Taylor Swift,[15][16][17] Rachel Brosnahan, Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger, Kerry Washington, Nicole Scherzinger, Constance Wu,[18][19] Rihanna, Sydney Sweeney,[20] Kathryn Hahn, Jordan Peele,[21] Mila Kunis, Chelsea Peretti, Mia Khalifa,[22] and Hari Nef.[23]

Moritz has a private showroom and studio on Madison Avenue in Manhattan, New York, where his pieces are designed and handcrafted.

Moritz Glik's artistic achievements have been recognized with several prestigious awards and accolades. Some of his notable honors include being a two-time recipient of the Couture Design Awards[24][25] for Best Diamond Piece under $20,000 (2011, 2012), presented by The Couture Show[26] in Las Vegas, and the InDesign Award for Diamond Design by InStore Magazine (2016). His talent and artistic vision have led to collaborations with esteemed artists such as Vik Muniz and Sebastian Bremer,[27] and the auction house Christie's.[28]
