History

The school was founded[2] in 1974, and started with 27 students that year. Reasons provided for founding the school were teaching religion, the provision of corporal punishment, and avoiding sex education.[3] Bible classes were taught the first hour each day, and bible lessons were incorporated into all lessons.[4]

Enrollment in 1974 was 26. Classes were held in Mount Carmel Community Church in Prittstown,[5] in four rooms created by remodeling the churches original auditorium.[6] Later, a mobile building was added. Finally, in 1981, the present building, Pritts Hall opened. Pritts Hall is complete with ten classrooms, a science lab, library, gymnasium, and a computer lab with internet access. Outside elements include both a playground and soccer field.

Athletics

The sports teams are nicknamed the cougars.[7] Mount Carmel has the following athletic offerings[8] at the school:
