Mu'azu Jaji Sambo

Mu’azu Jaji Sambo (born 7 September 1959), is the former Minister of Transportation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari on 6 July 2022. He was earlier appointed as the Minister of State for Works and Housing in 2021 before he was moved by the President to the Ministry of Transportation[1]

Background

Mu'azu Jaji Sambo was born on the 7th of September, 1959 in Jalingo, Taraba State. He hails from Taraba State.

Young Sambo attended Muhammadu Nya Primary School Jalingo and Federal Government College, Maiduguri where he obtained WASCE Grade One Distinction.

Sambo studied Building from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and graduated with Second Class Upper Division. He is a Corporate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Building, Member Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Institute of Management[2]

Political appointment

Mu’azu Jaji Sambo was appointed a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the President, Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR on December 24, 2021.[3][4][5][6] He was assigned the responsibility of Minister of State in Federal Ministry of Works and Housing. On Wednesday 6 July 2022, he was reassigned to the Ministry of Transportation as the Minister of Transportation.[7][8][9][10] He is the current Minister of Transportation,[11] Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Career

Sambo had worked as a Senior Civil Engineer with Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Senior Manager (Banking Operations/Credit), Savannah Bank of Nigeria Plc, Assistant General Manager (Administration) Allied Bank of Nigeria Plc, Senior Manager (Administration) NICON Insurance Corporation[12] and General Manager Lagos Zone, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), where he meritoriously retired from the public service in 2019.

Mu'azu Sambo political trajectory saw him as a Foundation Member of the All Peoples Party (APP) in Taraba State where he aspired for the Taraba State Governorship seat under the Party in 1999.[13]

In the 2003 Presidential election, Sambo was the Taraba State Collation Centre Agent of the Presidential Candidate of the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Rtd.[14]
