Namoos-e-Sahaba and Ahle Bait Bill

The Namoos-e-Sahaba and Ahle Bait (Urdu: ناموسِ صحابہ و اہلِ بیت ) bill was passed by Parliament of Pakistan[1] to maintain respect for the companions of the Muhammad, his wives and his family.[1][2][3]

Aim

In setting out the aims and rationale for the bill, it is noted that disrespect towards the Companions of Muhammad and other holy figures not only encourages terrorism and unrest in the country, but also causes harm to the populace.[4]

Amendment

Earlier, according to this bill, the blasphemer was sentenced to three years in prison,[5] but in August 2023 it was increased from three to ten years.[6]
