History

Russian entrepreneur and businessman Yury Popovich first established Naxeex in 2014[2] though the company has been relaunched both in 2015[3] and 2016.[1] Naxeex primarily develops mobile games for Android and iOS. These games are released for free though Naxeex earns profit through advertising and in-app purchases.[1] The company's marketing director, Nikolay Andrianov, states that they use Google AdMob for ad network and monetization.[2] Some of their initial games include Army Toys Town, Stickman Superhero, and Gangster Crime series.

Naxeex Headquarters was originally stationed in Novosibirsk, Russia,[1] but was later moved to Limassol, Cyprus.[4] Around this time, Naxeex began dabbling into the superhero sandbox genre, releasing series such as Rope Hero and Superhero. According to Nick Antonis, the head developer, the company took many inspirations in developing their games, mostly from other triple-A open-world superhero games like Infamous, Prototype and Crackdown, as well as the MMORPG game City of Heroes.[4]

In total, Naxeex has developed over 525 apps,[3] 100 of which are video games.[2] Naxeex allows IT interns from various universities and colleges to work for their company, with the aim of teaching them video game development.[4] Through this on-the-job training, Nick Antonis taught the ethics of video game development, free-to-play games, and the dangers of crunching. Because of these, Naxeex was praised recently by the newspaper The Cyprus Chronicler.[4]

Reception

Currently, their games have more than one billion installs and tens of millions of daily active users.[2] In Google Rankings, Naxeex action and rpg games appeared in the Top 100 in more than 10 countries.[5] Over the years, several of Naxeex superhero games received critical acclaim, with some being touted as the best in mobile gaming and in the open-world superhero genre.[6][7]

Rope Hero: Vice Town is their most downloaded app, being in the Top 10 of the Action Category in Google Play for years.[2][3] Amar Roy of Gaming.net listed Rope Hero: Vice Town at #2 in his list of “5 Best Superhero Games on Mobile”, stating, “It's not your typical game – it offers a one-of-a-kind superhero adventure that's different from the rest” while also adding, “[it] allows you to do whatever you want and there are lots of different things to do in the open world.”[6]

Mathias Nelson of Random Badass Stuff ranked the game Naxeex: Superhero at #5 in his list of “Top 5 Original Sandbox Superhero Games”. He described the game as “one of the best free mobile games that allow players to get into the shoes of an independent masked vigilante.”[7]
