Near-infrared signature management technology
Near-Infrared (NIR) Signature Management Technology is used to prevent detection of soldiers by near infrared based night vision devices. NIR-compliant uniforms use a special fabric that allows soldiers to appear at the same radiation level as the surrounding terrain, thus making them more difficult to detect.
The technology often relies on dyes or pigments with desired absorbing/reflecting characteristics in the near-infrared part of electromagnetic spectrum. It falls into the problematics of multispectal camouflage.
The technology operates in near-infrared context of image intensifier devices.
Do not confuse with related but different problematics of thermal imaging countermeasures.
