Neora Even-Zahav

Naora Ibn-Zahav (born 11 October 1947) is an Israeli Paralympic athlete. She won Paralympic medals in athletics and was a member of the women's wheelchair basketball team.

Life

Even-Zahav was born in Bucharest. When she was four years old, she immigrated to Israel from a detention camp in Cyprus.[1]

At the age of eight, she contracted polio, and in 1961 joined the sports center for the disabled and trained in athletics, fencing, archery, and wheelchair basketball. She took part in competitions in Israel and abroad and participated in the Stoke Mandeville Games.[1]

At the 1968 Summer Paralympics, in Tel Aviv, she won a gold medal with the women's basketball team.[1][2] In the athletics competitions, she won two silver medals in the 60 meter wheelchair race,[3] and the 4x40 meter relay race.[4] She won a bronze medal in the slalom competition.[5] In the archery competitions, she finished seventh.[6]

She was a member of the women's wheelchair basketball team, and participated in the New York and Stoke Mandeville Paralympics (1984) where the team won a silver medal.[1] Her last appearance in the Paralympic Games was with the basketball team at the 1988 Summer Paralympics in Tel Aviv.[1] In addition to taking part in six European Championships, in 1996 she participated in the World Championships in Great Britain.

Family

She married disabled sports athlete Israel Even-Zahav.
