As part of a redevelopment and beautification drive, in 2019 Indian Railways upgraded passenger facilities at Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station: Digital information boards display the name, number, platform number, and time of trains; all platforms now have new lifts and escalators; green polycarbonate sheeting on platform roofing keeps the platforms cooler; the station was repainted, with a new colour scheme for platform shelters and traditional murals along the approach road; platforms 2 and 3 have vacuum dewatered flooring for easier cleaning and reduced risk of slipping; two reverse osmosis drinking water systems with platform taps, plus water vending machines, and around 300 new steel benches have been added; platforms have separate dustbins for dry and wet waste, to segregate biodegradable waste, and a dedicated sanitation helpline has been introduced for passengers to report issues with cleanliness at the station; for security, marshals are stationed on the platforms and Delhi Police officers at entry and exit points, and CCTV cameras were installed on platforms and near station offices. In addition, the station now has dedicated lanes for autos, taxis, Ola and Uber pick up and drop off, a premium parking area in front of the station building, new landscaping and fountains along the access road.[7]
Rooftop solar
As part of an Indian Railways plan to save ₹41,000 crore in energy consumption and generate 1000 megawatts (MW) from solar power, 500 MW from rooftop solar,[8] in 2016 Northern Railways contracted with Vivaan Solar, a company based in Gwalior, to install 0.6 MW of rooftop solar at Hazrat Nizamuddin station.
