North Yorkshire Council elections

North Yorkshire County Council was elected every four years from 1973 until 2017, and then finally in 2022. The council was replaced on 1 April 2023 by North Yorkshire Council, with the councillors serving on the old county council at that date automatically becoming councillors on the new council.

The first election to the county council was held in 1973, initially operating as a shadow authority until it came into its powers on 1 April 1974. Political control since 1974 has been as follows:[1]

Council elections

There was no election in 2021 because of proposals to abolish the county council. The councillors elected in 2022 served as county councillors until 31 March 2023 and then automatically became the councillors for the new unitary North Yorkshire Council when it came into effect on 1 April 2023.
