Oluyemi Adetiba-Orija
Oluyemi Adetiba-Orija is a Nigerian lawyer, human rights activist and founder of Headfort Foundation – an all-women nonprofit legal services organisation offering free legal services to vulnerable people in Nigeria.[1][2]
Career and human rights work
Oluyemi Adetiba-Orija began legal practice in 2013 with a law firm Abiodun Onidarre & Co litigating in criminal cases until 2016 when she left the law firm to establish her own firm, Headfort Chambers focusing on commercial, employment, real estate and family law.[3] During this period, she realised that many suspects in prison cells awaiting trials are vulnerable people who had committed minor crimes but had no lawyers to defend them in court. In 2017, she founded Headfort Foundation to defend vulnerable people pro bono.[4] The foundation's all women four lawyers visit prison cells and identify poor inmates who cannot afford legal service and defend them in court.[5] As of 2022, the foundation had defended about 300 minor offenders.[3]
