History
In 2017, Optimized Electrotech was established by Sandeep Shah,[3][4][5] an alumnus of IIM-C, together with Dharin Shah and Anil Kumar from IISC Bangalore, and Kuldeep Saxena, a former scientist from ISRO. The company initially focused on imaging surveillance technology and later expanded into electro-optics, integrating AI into their systems.[1] The idea for OEPL originated when Sandeep Shah was heading another company called Optimized Solutions, which served companies like ISRO.[6]
In 2016, after the announcement of the startup idea policy and defense procurement procedure, which encouraged indigenous content and allowed startups to participate, Sandeep decided to start the company. The co-founders joined in the following months,[1] and the first prototype of their surveillance system was developed in early 2019.[6]
In 2022, the company launched NoctVision, a long-range day and night surveillance system,[7] during the 12th Defence Exhibition Expo in Gujarat, organized by the Ministry of Defence to showcase defense and homeland security systems.[8]
Operations
Optimized Electrotech operates in two locations: R&D and prototype development in Bangalore, and the main headquarters in Ahmedabad. In 2019, during Vibrant Gujarat 2019, the company signed an MOU with the Government of Gujarat to establish a manufacturing unit in the state.[9]
Funding and partnership
In 2021, Optimized Electrotech received $1.8 million in pre-Series A funding from Venture Catalysts.[10][11] The company secured a sales funnel of Rs 95 crore from Indian and global OEMs for the coming years. The potential market for railway, smart city, and intelligent border projects is $7.3 billion.
GVFL Ltd made an undisclosed investment in the company's Series A funding round.[12]
In 2023, the company raised INR 20 crore in pre-Series B funding, led by the Rajiv Dadlani Group.[13] Optimized Electrotech has partnerships with Bharat Dynamics Limited and India Optel Limited for specific product development and co-manufacturing.[6]
