Pallabi Thana

Pallabi (Bengali: পল্লবি) is a thana of Dhaka District in the Division of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Pallabi Thana total area is 25.28 square kilometres (9.76 sq mi), located in between 23°48' and 23°52' north latitudes and in between 90°20' and 90°23' east longitudes. It is bounded by Turag and Uttara Thanas on the north, Mirpur Model and Shah Ali Thanas on the south, Bimanbandar Cantonment and Kafrul Thanas on the east, and Savar Upazila on the west. There are different opinions about how Pallabi got its name.

  • People say that Pallabi is the daughter of late Jahirul Islam (Owner of Eastern Housing). After 1971 when Eastern housing got the tender of Mirpur extension project and the project was named after his daughter.
  • There is another opinion by people that Pallav Vai (Bangla: পল্লব ভাই) was the first freedom fighter of Pallabi. Early residents of Pallabi named the place Pallabi after his name. Earlier Pallabi was called Eastern Housing.
  • People also say that this place got its name Pallabi Because Pallabi means nature, new leaves, greenery, green environment, etc. Earlier Pallabi was one of the most greenery places in Dhaka.
