Paul J. Tikalsky

Paul J. Tikalsky (born December 30, 1960) is an American engineer, and academic leader who currently serves as Dean & Donald and Cathey Humphreys Chair of Engineering at Oklahoma State University.

Early life and education

Paul Tikalsky has earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1983. He later earned Master of Science in Structural Engineering at University of Texas at Austin in 1986 and also Doctor of Philosophy in Structural Engineering at University of Texas at Austin in 1989.

Career

He served as the Dean of the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology at Oklahoma State University (OSU) from 2012 to 2023.[1] Previously, he was the Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental (and Nuclear) Engineering at the University of Utah from 2006 to 2012. He also was a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Deputy Director of the Pennsylvania Transportation Institute at Penn State University. He served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Czech National Academy's Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and as a Research Fellow with the US Army Corp of Engineers Waterways Experimental Station. He has served as a consulting engineer and expert in concrete, construction materials, and structural engineering on specialized structures throughout his career. He is a registered Professional Engineer, registered Disaster Service Safety Assessment Engineer, and a Certified Commercial Building Structural Inspector.

Honors

Tikalsky is a Fulbright Scholar and an elected foreign member of the Czech National Academy of Engineering. He is a fellow of the American Concrete Institute, a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and received the Joe W. Kelly Award from the American Concrete Institute.[2] He was twice named the State of Utah's Engineering Educator of the year. Tikalsky served as a member of a US-Trade Mission to Algeria in 2018. He is an elected life member of the following Honor Societies: Phi Beta Delta, Chi Epsilon, Tau Beta Pi, and Phi Eta Sigma.
