Wales made a single first-class appearance for Sussex against Hampshire at Manor Sports Ground, Worthing in 1951.[3] In Hampshire's first-innings, Wales took the wickets of Jimmy Gray, Leo Harrison and Derek Shackleton for the cost of 12 runs from nine overs. He opened the batting in Sussex's first-innings, scoring 29 runs before being bowled by Charles Knott. In Hampshire's second-innings, he took the wickets of Alan Rayment and Richard Carty for the cost of just one run from four overs. He ended Sussex's second-innings unbeaten on 9, with Sussex winning by 10 wickets.[4] Despite a strong showing in the match, this was Wales' only major appearance for Sussex.
