Stave Hill is in a 5.2-acre (21,000 m2) ecological park, adjacent to Russia Dock Woodland, in the area of Rotherhithe, London Borough of Southwark close to Canada Water. In 1985, the LDDC created an 30-foot (9.1 m) high artificial mound using waste material and rubble. It is from this hill that the park derives its name. The hill was built as a truncated cone, with a viewing platform and relief map of the former docks in cast bronze by Michael Rizzello at the top, and provides views over the City of London, Greenwich, South London as well as Canary Wharf.
