E. H. Harriman

1848 – E. H. Harriman (pictured), the executive in charge of both the Union Pacific Railroad and the Southern Pacific Railroad at the turn of the 20th century, is born (d. 1909).
1849 – The Scioto and Hocking Valley Railroad (which eventually was absorbed by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad) is chartered in Ohio to build a railroad from Portsmouth through Piketon and Chillicothe to Lancaster.[1]
1980 – Canadian Pacific Railway officially abandons its Eganville subdivision, including tracks between Payne and Douglas, Ontario.[2]
1998 – The Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad files an application with the Surface Transportation Board to build new railroad track to haul coal from the Powder River Basin in Wyoming.
