- 1839 – Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts Railroad is incorporated in Maine.
- 1899 – Southern Railway in the United States inaugurates the Piedmont Limited passenger train service.[1]

- 1917 – The Pere Marquette Railroad is reincorporated as the Pere Marquette Railway.
