1832 – The United States Post Office Department enters into its first contracts with stage carriers to carry mail by rail between Philadelphia and Chester, Pennsylvania.[1]
1891 – John D. Spreckels incorporates the San Diego Electric Railway Company.
1891 – Brooks Locomotive Works completes its 2,000th new steam locomotive.[2]

1917 – Utah Railroad assumes operations from Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad over its lines in Utah.[3]
1928 – Passenger interurban service between Jackson and Kalamazoo, Michigan, is discontinued.[4]
1955 – The Manistee and North Eastern Railroad in Michigan merges into Chesapeake and Ohio Railway.[5]
