Pulang is a 1952 Indonesian drama film directed by Basuki Effendy and starred Turino Djunaedy, Marlia Hardi, Djuriah Karno, Lies Noor, and Renny Santy.

Plot

A scene from the film

A village youth, Tamin, was persuaded by Japanese propaganda and became heiho. He moved to Burma during World War II as a member of the red cross. When Japan collapsed, Tamin and his friends were brought to Java to be handed over to the Dutch troops who were trying to re-colonize Indonesia. He was forced to be a KNIL soldier to fight against his own country. After the Indonesian National Revolution, Tamin moved back to his village. Unable to stand being teased by his friends, he then moved to the city and reunited with his friend who became Indonesian soldier. Tamin was advised by his friends that he could still contribute to the country by fulfilling independence in their respective fields and later he returned to his village and homeland.

Pulang was directed by twenty-one-year old Basuki Effendy for Gabungan Artis Film.[1] It was written by Toha Mochtar and received a fund from Produksi Film Negara along with Rentjong dan Surat (1953) in order to support the younger generation to work in the film industry.[1] This film starred Turino Djunaedy, Marlia Hardi, and Djuriah Karno in a leading roles.[1] It also featured the two newcomer actress Lies Noor and Renny Santy.[1]

Release

Pulang was released in January 1952 and was screened at Garuda Theatre on 5 and 6 January.[1]
