Pushkar Sharma (cricketer)

Pushkar Sharma is an Indian-born Kenyan Cricketer.[1] He made his debut on November 17, 2022 against Saint Helena in ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier at the age of 22,[2] a year after scoring 841 runs from 14 innings in the NPCA (Nairobi Province Cricket Association) Super Division League.[3] Pushkar Sharma played for the Mumbai U-16 team as their captain in 2014-2015 against Saurashtra cricket team[4] in the Vijay Merchant Trophy.[5] He received sponsorship from IndiaFirst Life Insurance Company Limited (IndiaFirst Life).[6]

    International Career

    In November 2022, Pushkar Sharma was included in Kenya's squad[7] for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in Rwanda.[8]

    He opened the batting for Kenya in the 2022–23 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers alongside Collins Obuya.[9] He led Mumbai Under-16 team in 2014-15, where Prithvi Shaw played under his captaincy.[10] Pushkar Sharma also trained alongside Arjun Tendulkar in Mumbai Under-16 probables squad.[11]


    Biography

    He joined YMCA club in Greater Noida before shifting to Mumbai, where he began playing for Al-Barkaat Malik English School..[12]

    Pushkar’s career was boosted when he joined the Mumbai U-16 team as the captain of the side starred by names like Prithvi Shaw,[13] Agni Chopra son of Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Prashant Solanki[14] and Bhupen Lalwani.[15]

    Pushkar Sharma has been inspired by Gautam Gambhir[16] and Virat Kohli.[17] He went to Aligarh City to give tips to young cricketers on April 25, 2023.[18]

    Domestic Career

    Currently, Pushkar Sharma is playing for Ruaraka Sports Club Ground in Kenya.

    In 2023, he secured the position of the second-highest scorer in the Nairobi Province Cricket Association League, amassing a total of 730 runs in 14 innings."[19][20]. The Run-Machine, Pushkar Sharma, who ended Ruaraka's 22-year drought and rewrote history, as Ruaraka Sports Club won the title of the Nairobi Province Cricket Association League.[21]

    In the 2021 season, he notably achieved the status of being the top scorer in the Nairobi Province Cricket Association league, amassing an impressive total of 841 runs in just 14 innings.[22]

    In 2018, Pushkar Sharma played for Shivaji Park Youngsters in the Kanga League.[23]

    In he 2012-13 season, Pushkar Sharma achieved his highest score of 261 runs in the Giles Shield Cricket Tournament when he played against B A K Swadhaya Bhawan (Matunga).[24]

    Pushkar Sharma reveals that his favorite shot is the 'flick'.[25] and he also credits for IndiaFirst Life Insurance their constant support in sponsoring him.[26]

    Pushkar had to move to Nairobi[27] after his father passed away due to cancer.[28] He saw an opportunity to play cricket in kenya.[29]

    Biggest win in T20I history, Kenya achieved a stunning victory in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier on November 20, 2022 defeating Mali in just 15 balls.[30][31]

    Opener Collins Obuya scored an unbeaten 18 runs. While Pushkar Sharma scored 14 not out.[32]

    On June 22, 2023, Pushkar Sharma granted an interview to TimesofIndia,[35] where he shared the untold story of his life. Preceding this, on February 7, 2023, he had given an interview to ABPLive News,[36] and earlier, on January 9, 2023, he had spoken to CNBC TV18 News.[37]
