History

The station was founded by Finnish entrepreneur Teva Glad, who identified the need among Finnish expatriates living there to stay informed about events in their home country.[2] For the first ten years, Radio Finlandia operated within the international Onda Cero radio station, offering a one-hour program block in the afternoon. In 2000, the station moved to a channel called Kust Radio in Fuengirola, founded by Swedes, where its airtime grew to two hours.

In 2010, Glad established Radio Finlandia on its own frequency and stayed involved in the station's operations for a few years, after which he moved back to Finland to establish a new radio station with his brother.

Ownership

Ownership of Radio Finlandia has changed hands multiple times over the years. Glad sold the station to Heli Touru in 2013.[3] In 2019, Henry Aflecht bought the station's shares and developed the station in a multimedia direction.[4] Aflecht has sold his shares and since August 2022 Raija Kurkola has been the editor in chief.[5]
