Soundarya arranges 'Mrs Dombivali ' competition only for fairer girls because she decides to marry the winner girl to Kartik. Shweta wins the competition, and Soundarya fixed Kartik's marriage with Shweta. But Kartik refused to marry Shweta. Aditya loves Shweta so Soundarya fixed Aditya and Shweta's marriage. Shweta thinks her marriage is fixed with Kartik and continuously flirt with him, but Kartik only loves Deepa. Then Deepa introduced the maid of Devkule house by Radha behind Deepa's father, and Deepa also accepts it because of Shweta's happiness.
At Shweta Aditya's engagement Soundarya knows Deepa's reality that she is Shweta's sister then she called off the engagement. After a series of event Kartik marries Deepa at a temple. Soundarya refused to accept the marriage. She then accepts it because she doesn't want Kartik to leave the house and plots to marry Shweta with Kartik instead of Deepa at the altar. But Lavanya, Saundarya's daughter, stops this from happening and gets Kartik married with Deepa, surprising Saundarya, Radha and Shweta. Shweta vows to break off the marriage. When Deepa and Kartik knows that Soundarya doesn't accept Deepa as her daughter -in-law, they planned to find Soundarya's past.
They go to Nashik, Soundarya's hometown and discover that in Saundarya's teenage, a man named 'Leeladhar Kale' who was dark skinned, cheated in business on Soundarya's father. Radha manipulates Saundarya about Deepa's mother Shalini that she is the main culprit behind younger Kartik's accident and Mai's condition and also the helper of Leeladhar in his bad deeds, but in reality she saves Kartik and Mai. In all this car hits her and she dies. Soundarya decides Shweta and Aditya's marriage, at their marriage Soundarya blames Deepa and her mother. Then Deepa leaves house to prove her mother innocent. Deepa brings her back into the house because of her feigned pregnancy. Later Deepa is expecting twins, but Soundarya doesn't want Deepa becomes a mother. Because she thought that her babies born in black colour. But later she agrees with Sujay's help. But she wants Deepa's babies born like Kartik not like Deepa. Then Shweta ends her fake pregnancy and tells everyone that she had a miscarriage because of Deepa.
Later Deepa hosts a programme Sawale Sundar (transl. Balck is beautiful) where dark-skinned people share their story to the other about how society behaves with them because of their dark complexion. Soundarya knows about this and she insults Deepa in ongoing programme but Deepa gives befitting reply to her about real beauty. Soundarya takes it's her insult. Shweta tries to harm Deepa's unborn child but Deepa retaliates and lock her in room. There she finds a Kartik's fake file made by Tanuja that states Kartik is infertile. On the other hand, Mai tells Soundarya that Shalini is actually the saviour of Kartik. Soundarya has a change of heart. She arranges Deepa's baby shower. On the other side, Kartik learns of his infertility and doubts on Deepa and Sujay' relationship. At the baby shower, he tells everyone that Deepa is carrying Sujay's child. He wants Deepa to do a DNA test but Deepa refuses. Kartik tells her to leave the house and she does.
Deepa then is given shelter by Mr & Mrs Athavale, where she starts a tiffin service in their earlier space to earn money. A new girl enters in Kartik's life named Ayesha. She and her mother Mrs Deshmukh plot a revenge from Soundarya because she rejected Ayesha's sister, Richa's, proposal for Kartik due to her dark skin. Soundarya tries her hard to reunite Deepa and Kartik together with Lavanya's help but she fails. With the help of Sujay, Soundarya plans Deepa and Kartik's mutual divorce, so they starts living together for one month and then she can clear their misunderstandings. Shweta hires a goon, Sunny, to poison Deepa but she is run out from there.
Due to the obstetrician being late because of Radha and Sweta's antics, Kartik delivers the first child who is of fair complexion and leaves when the obstetrician arrives. Deepa delivers another girl who is dark skinned. Soundarya takes a dark skinned baby with her in house. Savita nurse tells Deepa that her other baby died in her womb because Soundarya force her to lie Deepa about it. Soundarya then realizes that it the wrong but before she could return the baby to Deepa, Deepa runs away with the other child. She with her daughter lives with Ashwini, a nurse. Soundarya promises to protect the baby at any cost to herself. She brings the baby home and tells everyone she has adopted the baby and Kartik would be her father. Initially Kartik denies but later he accept the baby with his heart. Deepa names her daughter Kartiki while Saundarya names the other daughter as Deepika.
