Sally saw
A sally saw is a portable, mechanical, motorized saw created in the first half of the 20th century. It was used for limbing and bucking trees. A sally saw comprises an engine, a circular saw, and a drive shaft.
Description
The sally saw was created by the Cummings Machine Works in 1945.[1][2] It is a portable, mechanical, motorized saw[3] used for limbing (removing branches from the stem of a felled tree) and bucking (cutting a felled and delimbed tree into logs).
Construction
A sally saw consists of several parts:
- An engine
- A cutting blade: a circular saw,[3] sometimes hidden within a guard
- A drive shaft that transmits power from the engine out to the cutting blade
