Samastha-CIC Row

In November 2022, Samastha stirred up a hornet's nest by sacking Abdul Hakeem Faizy, an enterprising scholar, educationalist, and secretary of Coordinating of Islamic Colleges, accusing him of revisionism and promoting progressive thinking. [8] [9] [10] [11] Faizy sought to revise and modernize the curriculum of Islamic seminaries in the state by introducing compulsory university-level secular education along with religious studies and introduced the concept of woman-only seminaries. [12] With Faizy’s expulsion, Samastha provoked the ire of its own followers, especially a large number of young scholars, including the graduates, students, and teachers at the CIC colleges. But Samastha threatened Faizy’s supporters with disciplinary action. Faizy ruled out all allegations Samastha levelled against him as baseless. He said he remained an avowed proponent of traditional Islam but reiterated his “life-long commitment to enlighten, empower and uplift the young generation through education”. [13].
