After compiling a record of 34–2 (12 KOs) he faced Andrea Scarpa for the vacant European super-lightweight title on 27 July 2019 at the Pabellón Francisco Calvo in Barcelona. Martin went on to defend his title twice before taking on former four-division world champion Mikey Garcia on 16 October 2021 in Fresno, California. Despite being a big underdog, Martin upset the odds by prevailing as the victor by majority decision, with scores of 95–95, and 97–93 twice in his favor.[7]
