Sandro Platzgummer

Sandro Platzgummer (born March 10, 1997) is an Austrian professional American football running back who is currently playing for the Raiders Tirol in the European League of Football. He previously played for the New York Giants in the NFL. In Europe he originally played for the AFL team of the Swarco Raiders Tirol and the Austria national American football team.[1][2]

Career

Swarco Raiders Tirol

In Austria, Platzgummer played for the Swarco Raiders Tirol of Innsbruck in the Austrian Football League. He played with the Raiders for five seasons and won two European championships with the team.[3]

New York Giants

Platzgummer came to the National Football League and in turn the New York Giants via the International Player Pathway Program.[4][5] In 2021, Platzgummer made a 48 yard rush in a preseason game against the New York Jets.[6][7]

On March 28, 2022, Platzgummer re-signed with the Giants.[8] After three years on the Giants practice squad, the franchise released him[9]

Raiders Tirol

After being cut from the New York Giants roster, the franchise of his hometown club playing in the European League of Football, Raiders Tirol announced his signing on April 20, 2023. There, he is playing with former teammates and his older brother.[10]

Personal life

Platzgummer has also been studying to become a medical doctor.[11]
