Santiago Homenchenko

Santiago Damián Homenchenko Bianchi (born 30 August 2003) is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Peñarol.[2]

Club career

Homenchenko is a former youth academy player of Danubio and Plaza Colonia.[3] He joined Peñarol in July 2021. On 8 September 2022, he signed his first professional contract with the club.[4] He made his professional debut on 19 September 2022 as a 84th minute substitute for Brian Lozano in a 3–1 league win over Cerrito.[5]

International career

Homenchenko is of Ukrainian and Italian descent, and thus available to represent Uruguay, Ukraine and Italy.

In October 2022, Homenchenko was named in Uruguay's squad for the 2022 South American Games.[6] He played all five matches in the tournament as Uruguay eventually finished fourth after reaching semi-finals.[7]

He was a part of the Uruguayan side that won the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina.[8][9]

Personal life

Homenchenko has ten siblings and is the youngest child in the family.[4]
