Satvir Kaur
Satvir Kaur is a British Labour Party politician who has been Leader of Southampton City Council since 2022.

Early life and education
Kaur was born and raised in Southampton.[1] Her family owned a sari shop in the Bevois area and she attended local schools at Mount Pleasant Juniors and St Anne’s Catholic School.[2]
She graduated from both the University of Southampton and Solent University, with a degree in History and Politics and then in Law.[3]
Political career
In the 2016 United States presidential election, Kaur campaigned for Hillary Clinton's campaign in North Carolina.[4] Kaur has represented Shirley ward on Southampton City Council since 2011.[5] After the 2021 Southampton City Council election, where Labour lost the council to the Conservatives,[6] Kaur was elected leader of the Labour group.[7]
Following the 2022 Southampton City Council election, she was elected council leader.[8][9] She became the first female Sikh council leader in British history.[10]
On 5 July 2022, she launched her campaign to succeed Alan Whitehead as MP for Southampton Test,[11] following his announcement to stand down at the next general election.[12] On 10 July she was chosen as the party's prospective parliamentary candidate.[13] Later that year she introduced Keir Starmer at Labour Party Conference in Liverpool.[14]
Political opinions
She supports establishing an investment zone in the city.[15] She spoke at an event marking Refugee Week.[16]
