Shahid Raza Naeemi

Shahid Raza Naeemi O.B.E. (1950 – 5 September 2022, Hindi: शाहिद रज़ा नईमी, Urdu: شاہد رضا نعیمی) was an Indian-British Islamic scholar, author and writer belonging to the Barelvi movement of Sunni Islam.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Shahid was born to Mufti Muhammad Habibullah Naeemi in 1950 in Fatehpur, Bihar. Shahid completed his graduation from Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University; later,[4] he went to Jamia Naeemia Moradabad to pursue Alim's course and did further studies there.[5] Shahid was affiliated with the Ashrafi Sufi order; he was a Chishti, and his spiritual guide was Syed Mohammad Mukhtar Ashraf Ashrafi Jilani of Kichhauchha, India.[6][7][8]

Later life and legacy

Shahid started his career as a teacher of Arabic and Islamic sciences, at Jamia Naeemia Moradabad in 1976. After that, he went to Britain, where he did good work for the religion of Islam. Later in the year 1978, he was invited as an imam to lead the Islamic center in Sutherland Street, Leicester. Since coming to Britain, his mentors have been Qamaruzzaman Azmi.[9]
