Sheikh Rehana Textile Engineering College, Gopalganj (Bengali: শেখ রেহানা টেক্সটাইল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং কলেজ) is a government engineering college in Bangladesh, offering B.Sc. in Textile Engineering degree. The college is situated in Ghonapara of Gopalganj District, 12 km from Tungipara, in Dhaka Division. It is one of the nine constituent textile engineering colleges of Bangladesh University of Textiles, which are collectively governed by the Department of Textiles, Ministry of Textiles and Jute, Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

History

Sheikh Rehana Textile Engineering College was named after Sheikh Rehana Siddiq, the younger sister of the current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the daughter of the first President of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The college was established in 2022. Public Works Department (PWD), Gopalganj took possessing on five acres of land in the year of July, 2013 and the next year the authority further complete the acquisition of three acres of land in same areas for extension of work. Total 8 acres of land was selected at Ghonapara under Sadar Upazila in Gopalganj district.

Construction began in 2019 under the supervision of the PWD, Gopalganj.[1] The project was finished in 2021 while the academic activity started in March, 2022. Inauguration ceremony of the college was held on 14 February, 2023.[2] Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the inauguration of this college along with another five textile institutes.

SRTEC offers a four-year B.Sc. in Textile Engineering under the affiliation of Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX). Concerned departments of the college are given below:

Admission

Admission into this college is competitive and needs a high academic attainment at the SSC and HSC examination. Selection of the student for admission is made through an admission test. Admission circular is published in the national dailies, college website and website of the Department of Textiles.

Scholarship/ stipend

Almost 60% of the total students get stipend on the basis of merit during their academic years.

Facilities

Hostel

There are two hostels; one for male students and another hostel for female students. Hostels are run swiftly under the intensive supervision of a superintendent along with an assistant staff.

Library

The college library has a collection of academic books ranging from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Programming, Data Science, Management, Marketing, Textile Manufacturing, Technical Textile, Fashion & Clothing, Simulation & Modelling etc. A staff is assigned in the role of the librarian to operate and co-ordinate with students regarding book collection, card management and book storing and sorting.

Cotton Spinning Section provides practical knowledge regarding the blow room, carding machine, combing machine, ring frame, simplex, rotor frame, double twister machine, autoconer machine.

Jute Spinning Section is equipped with OD batch mixer, breaker card, finisher card, drawing (1–4), spinning frame, cop winding machine.

Textile Testing and Quality Control Laboratory is equipped with the updated and modern machinery needed to evaluate and assess the fiber, fabric, color fastness, and garments quality as well as performance.

Weaving Section provides pirn winding machine, card punching machine, tappet, dobby and jacquard loom, combined shedding, hand loom, jute sacking loom, rapier loom, air jet loom, braiding machine and fabric inspection machine.

Knitting Section is equipped with V-bed flat knitting machine, automatic socks knitting machine, dial linking machine, crochet warp knitting machine.

The lab is equipped with sample dyeing and washing machine, Jigger dyeing machine, hydro extractor machine, screen printing machine, screen preparation unit, Stenter machine, boiler and data color machine.

This lab is equipped with different types of cutting, sewing and finishing machinery.
