Shubh

Shubh was born on 10 August 1997[2] in Punjab, India.[3][4] He has an elder brother Ravneet Singh, who is also an actor, singer, vocalist and host.[1][8]

Shubh started in 2021 with single 'Don't Look' with Irman Thiara. Later he released his breakthrough single 'We Rollin', following which he released songs 'Elevated' and 'Offshore'.

In 2022, Shubh released three singles 'No Love', 'Baller' & 'Her'. His song 'Baller' with music producer 'Ikky' became his most streamed track of all time. It charted on Canadian Hot 100 at 68.[7]

In 2023, he released his debut album Still Rollin. Still Rollin debuted at number 16 on the Billboard Canadian Albums Charts.[9] He released another single 'One Love' in august.

In March 2023, when Punjab Police was in search of a pro-khalistan separatist Amritpal Singh, curfew imposed in several districts and mobile internet services were shutdown in Punjab,[15][16][17] Shubh shared a portrait of an allegedly distorted map of India in his Instagram story titled "Pray for Punjab", created by Amandeep Singh, a graphic artist known by the pseudonym Inkquisitive.[18] The portrait shows a police cop unplugging a light bulb, rendering the states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh dark, while Northeastern states, and the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were omitted, garnering criticism for wrong portrayal of map of India.[19][20] Notably, actress Kangana Ranaut alleged it as an indirect support to the Khalistan movement.[21] Facing backlash, Shubh removed the story and replaced it with the words "Pray for Punjab" on a black background.[22] Later, Inkquisitive, divulged on social media and apologising saying it was ‘not done intentionally to provoke any sort of separate state agenda’ but to show 'blackout in Punjab.[18][23]

In September 2023, Shubh announced his first India tour. The electronics brand boAt withdrew its sponsorship of Shubh's upcoming India tour following criticism. Subsequently, on 20 September, the ticketing app BookMyShow announced the cancellation of the singer's India tour.[24] Indian cricketers like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya and Suresh Raina also unfollowed him on Instagram.[25] On 19 September, Inkquisitive again divulged in social media that Shubh shared his artwork, and apologized saying it was to show 'blackout in Punjab.[18] Showing solidarity to Shubh, Inkquisitive blamed Ranaut for giving it a 'Khalistani angle'[26] Later on 21 September, Shubh took to his Instagram handle to provide clarification as a concern for internet shutdown in Punjab and expressed his disappointment over the cancellation of the tour saying, "India is My country too".[27][28][29] Other artists like AP Dhillon, Karan Aujla and Sidhu Moose Wala's team came in support of Shubh.[30][31] Several politicians from Punjab, including Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, and Bikram Singh Majithia also supported him.[32][33][34]
