Sphenomorphus derooyae

Sphenomorphus derooyae is a species of skink, a lizard in the family Scincidae. The species is native to Oceania.

Geographic range

S. derooyae is found in New Guinea and in the Bismarck Archipelago, including Admiralty Islands,[1][2] New Britain, and New Ireland.[2]

Habitat

The preferred natural habitat of S. derooyae is forest, at altitudes from sea level to 1,500 m (4,900 ft).[1]

Reproduction

S. derooyae is oviparous.[2]

Taxonomy

S. derooyae may be a species complex, and the proper name for populations outside the New Guinean mainland is uncertain.[1]

Etymology

The specific name, derooyae, is in honor of Dutch zoologist Nelly de Rooij (spelled "de Rooy" by de Jong).[2][3]
