History

Stott's College, initially known as the Stott's Business College, was established by its principal, Sydney Stott in 1883. Sydney Stott had a business in partnership with William Hoare selling typewriters and his motivation was to skill the Australian workforce in the use of typewriters.

Acknowledge Education acquired Stott's Business College in 1998, then named it Stott's College. Suzanne Jackson was appointed head of Stott's College and managing director of Acknowledge Education.[1]

Course background

The college offers higher education, vocational training and high school courses.[2] In 1914, there were four departments: Commercial, Shorthand, Typewriting and Accountancy. Day and evening classes were offered as well as courses tailored toward the high school student.

Stott's year 11 & 12 VCE program commenced in 2001. The program was initiated due to the growth of the Chinese market, and the need for an in-house pathway course following English. This allowed Stott's College to develop a strong Chinese market. In 2003, Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) program commenced in the Stott's Secondary Program.

In 2005, Stott's College gained Higher Education Degree accreditation. In 2006, The Bachelor of Business (Double Major Accounting) was accredited by National Institute of Accountants (NIA). All students that graduated from a Bachelor of Business could gain professional accreditation in Australia with NIA, an assessing authority for Australia's General Skilled Migrant Program.

Campuses

Stott's College was first established in its Melbourne campus, 54 Market St. Stott's College had campuses across other major cities in Australia and New Zealand including Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland, and Dunedin in 1910. Due to the growth of the Melbourne campus, it was moved from 54 Market St to a larger building in 96–100 Russell St.[3]

The current Melbourne campus is located in 168 Exhibition St.[4] This move was due to the growth of the Stott's College and other schools under Acknowledge Education.

The current Sydney campus was established in 2015 and Perth campus was established in 2017. Stott's newest campus, based in Brisbane, opened for students in 2020.
