Teresa Jacobo

Teresa Jacobo is a California politician and realtor. She was a member of the Bell City Council from 2001-2010, and served as Mayor in 2003.[1][2]

Early life

Jacobo was born in Jalisco, Mexico and came to the United States with her father at age 1.[3]

Career

She was a real estate agent for Century 21 Rainbow Properties in Bell, California.[4]

She served as Legislative Ambassador for the American Cancer Society (ACS), and ACS Cancer Action Network, Board Member of Friends of Bell Foundation (foundation for youth), Board Member for the Southeast Education Foundation, and Board Member of the Salvation Army.

Misappropriation of funds

She was convicted of misuse of city funds and stealing $100,000,[5] and other charges, along with seven other Bell officials.[6][7] The crimes nearly bankrupted the city.

The group was sued by then-Attorney General Jerry Brown for fraud, civil conspiracy, waste of public funds and breach of fiduciary duty.[8]

Jacobo was sentenced to two years in state prison on July 25, 2014. She was ordered to pay more than $242,000 in restitution.
