Chernogorovka-Novocherkassk complex
The Chernogorovka-Novocherkassk complex is an archaeological culture associated with the first steppe nomads of ancient eastern and central Europe, especially with the Cimmerians.
History
The Chernogorovka-Novocherkassk complex was derived from two main sources:[1]
- the Chernogorovka-Novocherkassk complex showed strong influences from Central Asia and Siberia, especially from the Karasuk, Arzhan, and Altai cultures;
- the Kuban culture of Ciscaucasia was also an important influence on the development of the Chernogorovka-Novocherkassk culture.
The Chernogorovka-Novocherkassk complex influenced the local cultures of Central Europe, such as the Hallstatt culture.[2]
The Chernogorovka-Novocherkassk complex was disturbed during the 8th to 7th centuries BC when the Scythians arrived from Central Asia and settled in Ciscaucasia.[2]
Spread
The Chernogorovka-Novocherkassk complex covered the area ranging from Central Europe and the Hungarian Plain in the west to the Pontic and Ciscaucasian Steppes in the east.[1]
