History
Formed in 2012, the band emerged from the last lineup of the defunct deathcore band Beast War Returns.[1] The band consisted of the two frontmen, Dixi Wu and Nico Sallach, two guitarists, Danny Güldener and Marc Dobruk, as well as bassist Stanislaw Czywil and drummer Simon Yildirim. Before joining the band, Yildirim was a drummer with We Set the Sun, which was signed to Redfield Records.[2]
Just a few months after the band was founded, the debut EP Young.Used.Wasted was released in early 2013, which was recorded by Electric Callboy guitarist, Daniel Haniß.[1] Between 6 and 22 March 2014, the group played as an opener for Her Bright Skies, Iwrestledabearonce and Electric Callboy through Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands and Italy. Only in Austria and in UK did the group not play.[3]
Appearances at Mair1 Festival, Bochum Total and Olgas Rock followed before the group toured through Germany again in the Autumn of the same year as the main support for Electric Callboy.[4][5][6][7]
In January 2015, the group was booked for the Summer Breeze tour in Dinkelsbühl.[8] At the beginning of May 2015, the debut album Neverland was released, which was also financed by Daniel Haniß was produced.[9] Exclusive sales partner was EMP Merchandising. In October 2015 the group started as a support act for We Butter the Bread with Butter on their Wieder Geil Tour, whose first concert was in the Reithalle Strasse E in Dresden took place. After 16 concerts, two of them held in Austria, the concert tour ended in December 2015 in Hamburg.[10] In November 2015, the group announced that they had signed a record deal with Arising Empire.[11]
In 2019, the band announced on social media that they would split up in early 2020. A farewell tour took place in January 2020 in four cities in Germany. Singer Nico Sallach then joined Electric Callboy, with whose members he had previously been friends. Several other members became members of ex-Electric Callboy singer Sebastian "Sushi" Biesler's band Ghostkid.
Musical style
To the Rats and Wolves played metalcore with influences from electronic dance music, which is also referred to in the scene as trancecore. This fits in seamlessly between Electric Callboy and We Butter the Bread with Butter.[12]
