Tocorón Prison
Tocorón Prison (Granja Penal de Tocorón) is a prison in Venezuela that was grossly overcrowded at ten times its capacity, originally built for a limit of 450 inmates and was taken over and controlled by the Tren de Aragua drug cartel, running it as their headquarters even bringing in their significant others and children. The prison was run "like a little city" with amenities such children's wading pools, a petting zoo and a Tokio nightclub. On September 21, 2023, a security force of 11,000 took control of the prison with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro congratulating the success of the operation.[1][2]
