USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 6-9

The USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 6–9 is a Flotilla of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary station out of Lake Conroe.[1] The flotilla patrols both Lake Conroe and Lake Livingston. It was founded in 1978.[2][3]

History

The flotilla was founded in 1978. The flotilla expanded to Lake Livingston in 2010. The flotilla has assisted with multiple search and rescue missions in both Lake Conroe and Lake Livingston since its founding in 1978.

Lake Conroe Queen Sinking

On August 15, 2021, the flotilla assisted when the Lake Conroe Queen sank leaving 53 people, injured one of whom later died.[4][5]

Current Operations

As of 2023, the flotilla is led by flotilla commander Jeff Huhs and vice flotilla commander Andrew Tempel.

Organization

The flotilla operates under the authority of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, which is a volunteer organization that supports the missions of the United States Coast Guard. The USCG Auxiliary is composed of civilian volunteers who assist the Coast Guard in various activities, including safety patrols, vessel inspections, and public education.

As of 2023, the current commander of Flotilla 6–9 is Jeff Huhs.
