Umar Walasma
Umar Walashma (Arabic: عمر والاسمة) (died 1275) was the first Sultan of the Sultanate of Ifat and the founder of the Walashma dynasty

Reign
According to al-Maqrizi, Umar Walashma was appointed by a "Haze" or an Emperor of Ethiopia to be the first recorded ruler of Awfat. Richard Pankhurst identifies this Emperor as Yekuno Amlak. But when he recognized the authority of the Kingdom of Damot, his territory was conquered by the Ethiopians. According to the History of the Walashma, he was said to have died in 1275 at the age of 120, and had over six hundred children.[1][2] Umar's dynasty would overthrow the ruling Makhzumi dynasty in 1295 which occupied Ifat since the ninth century.[3]
