Wendy Shay

Wendy Asiamah Addo (born 20 February 1996),[1] known by the stage name Wendy Shay, is a Ghanaian singer.[2][3][4] In March 2021, she was among the Top 30 Most Influential Women in Music by the 3Music Awards Women's Brunch.[5]

Early childhood

Wendy Shay was born on 20 February 1996 in Accra, a suburb of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.[6][7] [8]She was born to Mr. and Mrs. Addo in Kwahu, Ghana's Eastern Region. After the death of her father, she relocated to Stuttgart, Germany with her three siblings. Wendy's love of music grew after she lost her father when she was four years old.

She attended Morning Star School and St Martin de Porres[6][9] in Accra before relocating to Stuttgart where she continued her education from grade 7 (JHS 1).[10] She also attended a music school in Bernhausen in Germany.[7][11]

Career

Wendy Shay is a trained Nurse by profession, worked as a Midwife in the clinical field. She worked as a midwife until she moved to Ghana to pursue her musical dreams.[12][13]i. Her interest in music began when she was four years old, and she enrolled in a music school in Burghausen, Germany.[14]

She was introduced to music by Rufftown Records Manager Bullet and signed in January 2018[15] after the untimely death of label mate Ebony Reigns.[16][17] On 1 June 2018, Wendy Shay released her debut single "Uber Driver", produced by MOG Beatz.[18] The song was released together with the official video the same day.[19][20][21]

Wendy Shay was recently enstooled as the Ahenemba Hemaa of Gomoa Afransi[22] in the Central Region (Ghana) with the stool name Queen Ewurabena Ofosuhemaa Shay 1.[23]

Brand Ambassador

Wendy Shay is the brand ambassador for the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in Ghana.[24][25][26]

There was a controversy around Wendy being sacked as the Brand Ambassador for the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) but was later confirmed that she is still the Ambassador.[27][28][29]

Performance

Wendy Shay has performed at several events including Miss Ghana 2018 Finals, RTP Awards Africa 2018, BF Suma Ghana Connect 18 concert.[30][31][32]

Wendy Shay was named Discovery of the Year at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. She has also been nominated for several prizes in the past year, including the three Music prizes, where she won Breakthrough Of The Year, new artiste of the year at the Ghana Music Awards SA, Best New Artiste of the Year Ghana-Naija Showbiz Awards 2018, and Eastern Music Awards Video of the Year.[33]

In December 2019, she also performed at Ghana's Afronation Music Festival. .[34]

Her performance in Belgium at the Ghana Culture Festival 2022 was stopped by the Police.[35]

Rumors and News

The Kwabenya road has seen a horrifying collision involving Wendy Shay. A tipper truck reportedly lost control and attempted to crash into Wendy Shay while she was travelling on the Kwabenya road. Despite being unharmed, Wendy Shay climbed out of the car and complained of having terrible headaches, according to the bystander.[51] Saturday, September 9, 2023, saw the occurrence of this incident.[52]
